Teacups and China

I have a fascination for colourful teacups and china. I don’t quite know why, but today I’m going to try to sum it up.

(The following photos are curated from my Pinterest board “Teacups & China”).

Here’s why I think a stack of teacups, especially vintage ones, is so appealing:

1) it’s the mix of patterns and colours
2) it’s the shapes and their juxtaposition against each other
3) it’s eye candy and appealing on a childish, nostalgic level
4) I especially love teacups with curly, ornate handles
5) if they have gilded handles, all the more sex appeal!
6) gilt around the edges of teacups imparts a sense of luxury
7) the photography has to be just right, and capture the light and ambience
8) a tower of teacups says “Yes, let’s live dangerously and take risks, for once!”
9) they don’t even have to be stacked, to look gorgeous
10) cracked or chipped china imparts character, saying “I’m a survivor”
11) a medley of teacups from different makers and eras is like a time capsule
12) they liven up any setting and provide a topic of conversation
13) mix-n-match teacups and saucers looks bohemian and arty
14) it’s not sacrilegious in the least to place expensive, vintage teacups with cheap, funky modern ones, china isn’t picky
15) everyone should have beauty in their lives, and for me it’s wonderful to be able to choose a cup and sip from it. I’m irreverent and use mine to drink coffee from, not tea.

I don’t stop at just teacups. I love teapots, plates, platters, soup tureens, bowls, spoons, modern, traditional, kitschy, novelty, blue and white etc. The more higgledy piggledy the arrangement, the more insouciant and exhilarating it is.

Why can’t people be like this? All different, yet complementing each other.

Some of my Favourite Things : Mixed Media

I find this type of art hard to classify. Here are some designations I can think of, however many of the artworks fall between the cracks and defy classification.

Mixed Media Art
Digital Mixed Media
Mixed Media Photography Art
Digital Mixed Media Photography Art
Digital Collage
Digital Mixed Media Collage
New Media
Mixed New Media

…you get my drift? Or, simply take the words Mixed Media, Digital, Art, Photography, Collage, New, and mix to match.

But wait…it gets even muddier if you throw in Altered Art, Altered Books and 3D Collage.

Anyway, here are just a few of my favourite genre-bending pieces of artwork and illustration, by various different artists. If you want further information on any artist, please look for them on my Pinterest Boards “Assemblage, Altered Art, Steampunk” and “Digital Photography Art”. See, I told you they were hard to classify ;).

My Pin-up Poster Girl

I’ve had such a lot of lovely compliments about my pit bull girl, Shelagh, when I pinned photos of her on my Pinterest board. She’s quite the pin-up girl now lol.

So, today I’ll share with you here a few more photos of Shelagh. For those of you who don’t know already, Shelagh’s my 2-year-old pit bull dog, and the sweetest, smartest thing ever. I’m so inspired by her photogenic looks lately that I’m creating some t-shirt designs featuring her. I will share that with you all tomorrow.

But for now, here’s my sweet Shelagh.

My Favourite Pit Bull Quotes

Curated from Google Images. Let’s give Pit Bulls the love they deserve! If you’re looking for a dog to adopt, get a Pit Bull, you won’t ever regret it. Cesar Millan has Pit Bulls, and he knows a thing or two about dogs, I reckon!

Watch this heartwarming video montage of Cesar Millan’s 2 Pit Bulls, Daddy and Junior, created by a fan. I dare you not to cry.

I can hardly contain myself!

Well, I couldn’t help it, you know I love puns. I also like recycling and repurposing, and some time ago when I was researching beach huts and garden sheds, I also noticed a proliferation of container houses. It’s an intriguing idea alright. Perhaps some day…

Pinterest, my favourite go-to for visuals (Google for text based articles, Pinteresr for images), generously dished out these gems. Enjoy!

My Favourite Things Part II : Ceramic Spoons

Yesterday I shared with you some of my favourite Ceramics & Pottery from my Pinterest board of the same name.

Today I’d like to share with you some of my favourite Ceramic Spoons. Yes, don’t ask me why, but I seem to have a passion for decorated ceramic spoons. I don’t have any in real life, but I do on my Pinterest board of the same name.

If you require further information on any of the following images, simply go to my Pinterest board . When you click on any of the images there, you will be transported to its corresponding website.

My Favourite Things Part I: Ceramics & Pottery

A while back, I quite fancied putting my hand to turning out some ceramic teacups and plates. This dream never panned out, as I realised it would be a really messy affair, and my home life is already messy enough. There was also the question of space. I had none to spare. Besides, I didn’t have the money to buy a kiln for firing my pieces afterwards. No glorious glazes for me then!

So, I took to curating Ceramics, China and Pottery on Pinterest instead. No mess, no fuss, no financial investment involved. And et voila! A virtual collection that I can enjoy and share with my friends at any time.

I also thought about painting plain white ceramic spoons and ladles, just for decorative purposes. I even bought some white spoons for this purpose. And yet again, my intentions got thwarted by other matters. This is me – cosmic magpie, collector of ephemera and all things both real and virtual.

So today I’d like to share with you just a few of my curated Ceramics & Pottery images from my Pinterest board of the same name. If you are interested in finding out more about any particular artist, simply go to to my Pinterest page and click on the images on the Board there.

Tomorrow I’ll share my curated collection of quirky Ceramic Spoons in My Favourite Things Part II.

For now, enjoy!

No Teddy Bears Picnic

If you go down to the woods today…

Just some awesome photos that I’ve collated here from a couple of my Pinterest boards. I’ve been pinning them under “Amazing Places” or “Awesome Photos”, sometimes both! I’ve always loved images of trees in a forest, shrouded by mysterious mist and fog, with shafts of sunlight breaking through. Could be the Red Riding Hood in me 😄.

If you’re wanting to know who the photographers are, please look at my Pinterest boards, and when you click on the images therein, you will be taken to the website. Magic carpet wha hey!! 😁 If you’re not on Pinterest yet, why ever not?

Don’t you just want to go there already? Just to stand and stare, and wonder at the glorious magic of Mother Nature?

A World in a Drop of Water

I’ll let you in on a little secret of mine : I have a Pinterest board dedicated to Water Drops. Seriously, I do. I find water photography fascinating, particularly Macro and Liquid Splash photos. With Macro water drop photography, you can often really see an entire World reflected in just that one drop of clear, sparkling water. I really admire photographers who are able to capture that drop at precisely the right moment, or find that perfect necklace of spider’s web dew, or present a perfect flower within a tiny raindrop.

The other day I was looking through my collection of Pins, and I’ve decided to share with you some of my favourite Water Drop Pins. I stand in awe of the many superlative Macro photographers out there, as reflected by the following images; some of the photos are not Macros, instead I’ve chosen them for their sense of otherworldly beauty, or for their beautiful Zen stillness. I love being a Pinterest curator!

Here are some of my favourite water drops (courtesy of Pinterest and all credits to the photographers, naturally):
