I started my new job barely 3 weeks ago, as Communications Officer at the Refuge. The main part of my work is to post images and updates on our Social Media platforms – Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. I’m also responsible for updating out website.
Previously, the girl who did the posts used photos that she took herself, or those that volunteers took and emailed to her. When I took over the reins, I started out doing likewise…then a few days into the job, I had a sudden urge to cobble together a collage of a dog, instead of just a straightforward photo of it. I figured people would appreciate seeing the dog from different angles, doing different things, being out and about interacting with people and other dogs, rather than just sitting in their kennel. I also had an idea that our audience would respond and engage more with our images if they were somehow cuter, more artsy and emotive.
So I tested out my theory one day with just one photo, edited and processed using Apps on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The audience went wild! I did another one, and another, and another. I tried different Apps for collages and photo blending. I played around with fonts.
