Scruffy & Shelagh On The Beach

We managed to do it at last! Every time in the past, when we brought the dogs to one of our local dog beaches, there would be dogs there, off-leash, that would spot us and make a bee-line for us. Scruffy is very dog social and will make friends with anything, but Shelagh is a question mark still. We’ve always practiced active avoidance wherever possible.

Today the dog beach was very quiet. There was just one woman with her 2 dogs on the beach, but we went along the pedestrian path parallel to them, until we were behind them. They exited the beach shortly after, and then we had the entire beach to ourselves.

Just to be safe, I didn’t let the dogs off-leash. But we had fun walking on the sand, collecting cuttlefish backbones for the birds back home, and splashing in the waves. This was Shelagh’s first ever walk along the beach, and she was curious and cautious at the same time.
